“Rescuers are not your slaves,” says former L.A. Animal Services Commissioner

If you’re one of the countless bleeding hearts around the world who devote insane amounts of their own time, energy, and money to helping animals, chances are you’ve collected your share of tales about how much harder it is to deal with the humans involved than with the critters.
Many folks don’t seem to understand what roles animal rescuers play, and what roles they don’t. Consequently it’s not uncommon for rescuers to get belittled, badgered, bullied, or worse in the line of duty—volunteer duty, let’s not forget.
In her piece “Whose job is rescue?” Examiner and former Los Angeles Board of Animal Services Commissioner Marie Atake lets loose with a rousing rant that includes such truths as “Rescuers are not your slaves.”
For a therapeutic, validating vent on the frustrations of rescue work, Atake’s honest dispatch from the furry front lines is a don’t-miss.

Alfie had a hard life through his puppyhood. It takes compassion and patience to gain his trust, but once he knows you are there to protect him, he warms up to you so lovingly.
This 25-pound miniature schnauzer/poodle mix deserves someone special who will bring stability and security to his life. He's great with his foster lady, so in time, he can shake the sad past and start his new life with his forever person!
Alfie is neutered, housetrained, current on shots, and good with other dogs.
