Pregnant dog survives three bullets, gives birth, and raises eight puppies alone

by Katerina Lorenzatos Makis

At a time when some lawmakers have proposed shooting dogs and cats suspected of being stray as a form of population control, and some states allow it outright even in shelters, one dog trumped all odds with her will to live, surviving three bullet wounds to give birth to and raise eight puppies.

Watching the video (from WFMY and CNN.com) one recalls that the stories of most abused dogs do not end so happily, and that now homes must be found for this valiant mother, her pups, and millions more like them around the nation, around the world.

ADOPTABLE DOG in photo above is named "Bailey's," a four-month-young shepherd-Lab blend described as a "sweet, playful puppy."  To meet him contact Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, California.

Please note: Bailey's is not one of the puppies in the video, however, he and countless more like him are in desperate need of loving homes.
