Hermosa Beach to ban sale of dogs and cats in stores
by Shelley Frost

Hermosa Beach city council members have voted unanimously in favor of an ordinance prohibiting the sale of dogs and cats in retail stores.

If the law is accepted in a final vote scheduled on April 13, Hermosa Beach will join West Hollywood and South Lake Tahoe as the third California city to take similar action.

The idea for the ordinance was presented to the council in February by Council Member Jeff Duclos, said a council staff member during a phone interview with AnimalBeat today, adding that its wording is modeled after a similar law in West Hollywood.

“I think it’s a good idea,” said one city official as he cast his vote of approval.
